How to register to a VGC tournament

A six-step walkthrough — from creating your Trainer Club account to checking in on tournament day.

    Create a Pokémon Trainer Club account

    Head to the official Pokémon website and sign up for a free Pokémon Trainer Club (PTC) account. This is your identity in every official tournament.

    Get your Player ID

    Once your PTC account is verified, log in and copy your Player ID from your profile. You will need it for every check-in, both online and on-site.

    Pick an event on the official events page

    Browse upcoming Regionals, International Championships, and Premier Challenges. Filter by your region and look for the “VGC” format.

    Register before the deadline

    Most events use the Pokémon Events platform. Click “Register”, confirm your division (Junior / Senior / Masters) and pay the entrance fee if required.

    Build and register your team in-game

    Inside Pokémon Scarlet/Violet open the VS menu, build a Rental Team and submit it before the cutoff. Double-check the regulation set (e.g. Reg G/H) the event uses.

    Check in on tournament day

    Arrive 30 minutes early (or join the online lobby on time), present your Player ID, confirm your roster, and you’re ready to battle.

  • Spots in Regionals fill in minutes — set a reminder for the moment registration opens.
  • Always double-check the regulation set before locking your team.
  • Bring a printed copy of your Player ID and a charged Switch on event day.
